King’s College School opens new extension

On 10 March 2016, Allies and Morrison was delighted to be present at the opening of King’s College School’s newest building in Wimbledon, southwest London. King’s, an independent day school founded in 1829, is widely regarded as one of the most academically successful schools in the country.

Looking to expand its reach, the school has opened a new senior school for boys recruited from local primary schools – a first in 200 years. To accommodate it, we designed a new block that includes six state-of-the-art classrooms, administration and meeting spaces and a double-height multi-use hall. The building’s T-shaped plan creates a new courtyard, completing three collegiate quadrangles, and achieves high energy reduction standards. Paul Appleton, Laurie Hallows and Andrew Nevin joined school administrators in welcoming the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Secretary of State for Education, who officially opened the new classrooms and hall.
